SSC MTS brief info

SSC MTS (Staff Selection Commission – Multi Tasking Staff) is a national-level recruitment examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission of India. The exam is conducted to recruit candidates for various Group C posts such as Peon, Daftary, Jamadar, Junior Gestetner Operator, Farash, Chowkidar, Mali, etc. in various ministries, departments, and organizations of the Government of India.

The minimum educational qualification required to appear for the SSC MTS exam is 10th standard or equivalent from a recognized board. The exam is conducted in two stages – Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is an objective type exam consisting of four sections – General English, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, and General Awareness – with a total of 100 questions carrying 1 mark each. Paper 2 is a descriptive type exam consisting of a short essay or letter writing in English or any other language included in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India, for which candidates are given 30 minutes to complete.

Candidates who qualify both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are eligible for appointment to the respective posts based on their performance in the exams and subject to meeting the other eligibility criteria specified by the respective organizations.

The SSC MTS exam consists of two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is an objective-type exam while Paper 2 is a descriptive-type exam.

Syllabus for Computer Based Examination

Numerical and Mathematical Ability: It will include questions on problems relating to Integers and Whole Numbers, LCM and HCF, Decimals and Fractions, Relationship between numbers, Fundamental Arithmetic Operations and BODMAS, Percentage, Ratio and Proportions, Work and Time, Direct and inverse Proportions, Averages, Simple Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Area and Perimeter of Basic Geometric Figures, Distance and Time, Lines and Angles, Interpretation of simple Graphs and Data, Square and Square roots etc.

Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving: The questions in this part intend to measure the candidates’ general learning ability. The questions will be broadly based on Alpha-Numeric Series, Coding and Decoding, Analogy, Following Directions, Similarities and Differences, Jumbling, Problem Solving and Analysis, Nonverbal Reasoning based on diagrams, age Calculations, Calendar and Clock, etc.

General Awareness: The broad coverage of the test will be on Social Studies (History, Geography, Art and Culture, Civics, Economics), General Science and Environmental studies up to 10th Standard.

English Language and Comprehension: Candidates understanding of the basics of English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc. and to test comprehension, a simple paragraph may be given and question based on the paragraph to be asked.

NOTE: For VH candidates of 40% and above visual disability, there will be no component of Maps/Graphs/Diagrams/Statistical Data in the Paper

For PET/PST:

PET/ PST will be conducted by CBIC/ CBN at various centres finalized by them. The candidates may be called for PET/ PST to any centre across the country.

Syllabus for paper 2

The SSC MTS (Multi Tasking Staff) descriptive exam is conducted to evaluate the writing skills of candidates who have qualified for the SSC MTS Tier 1 exam. Here are the brief details of the SSC MTS descriptive exam syllabus:

  1. Essay Writing: Candidates will be given a choice of topics and they have to write an essay on one of the topics in about 250 words. The essay should be informative, coherent, and well-structured.
  2. Letter/Application Writing: Candidates will have to write a letter or application on a given topic. The letter/application should be written in a formal style and should be clear and concise.

Some of the important points to keep in mind while writing the essay and letter/application are:

  • Use simple and clear language.
  • Use correct grammar, spellings, and punctuation.
  • Organize your thoughts and ideas logically.
  • Use examples and relevant facts to support your arguments.
  • Write in a neat and legible handwriting.

The SSC MTS descriptive exam is of 30 minutes duration and carries 50 marks. Candidates should practice writing essays and letters regularly to improve their writing skills and score well in the exam.
